Celebrities extend hearty condolences to Shashi Kapoor at his residence
A man who is known for his veteran acting skills and for unique style, the Shashi Kapoor was one of the most popular actors of that time. The actor who has apparently been sick because of age related issues. However, the other details about his demise are yet to be revealed. This veteran actor died at the age of 79.
According to the Kokilaben Hospital as confirmed to the Press Trust of India (PTI), that Kapoor was admitted in the Hospital, Versova in Mumbai, due to a chest infection. Later he died due to liver cirrhosis at 5.20 pm, on December 4, 2017. He has undergone a bypass surgery a couple of years ago.
His father Prithviraj Kapoor used to direct and produce the plays which were casted on Shashi Kapoor, while traveling with Prithvi to Theatres. He started acting in films as a child in the late 1940’s under the name of Shashiraj. At the very young age Kapoor started acting as a child actor in movies like “Aag” in the year 1948 and “Awaara” in 1951, where he played the younger version of the characters played by his older brother Raj Kapoor and in “Sangram” (1950), where he played the younger version of Ashok Kumar. He worked in Bollywood as a child artist for four years from 1948 to 1954.
Kapoor was famous for his performance in films like Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Namak Halal, Jab Jab Phool Khile, Kalyug among others and also many more. Shashi Kapoor made his niche in films with not only solo films but also blockbuster multi-starrers. He voluntarily retired from films in late 1990s. Shashi Kapoor received the honour of Padma Bhushan in the year 2011.
The Kapoor’s family is most prominent Indian show business family with long history and presence in Bollywood. Most of the members of this family choose their career as actors, film producers and directors. He was married to actress Jennifer Kendal who passed away in 1984. He is survived by three children Karan, Kunal and Sanjana Kapoor. Though Kapoor’s daughter is also a film actress, she had a short career in this field.
